XII 2TG-RMLNLU IMC

The XIIth Edition of the 2TG-RMLNLU International Mediation Competition will be held from 20th to 22nd March, 2026 at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow. Now in its twelfth year, the IMC has established itself as one of India’s premier ADR competitions and one of the longest-running international mediation tournaments in South Asia, offering a platform for students to showcase advanced mediation skills, strategic negotiation, and collaborative problem-solving.

The upcoming edition is expected to see participation from universities in India and abroad. Teams will be assessed by an experienced panel of mediators and ADR practitioners, providing structured evaluation and practical insights into international mediation standards. Supported by 2 Temple Gardens, London, as the title sponsor, the 2026 edition will feature intellectually stimulating mediation problems, thorough assessment, and a rich international ADR learning experience.

Beyond preparing future mediators, the XIIth IMC reflects its broader commitment to responsible practices, including environmental stewardship. “Environmental responsibility begins with everyday institutional choices.” In keeping with this principle, the XIIth IMC will continue as a Green IMC, incorporating biodegradable protocols, minimal waste initiatives, and other sustainable measures. Coinciding with World Forestry Day, this edition highlights the competition’s ongoing dedication to environmentally responsible event management and aims to inspire participants to adopt sustainable practices in their own professional and personal lives.

Convenor's Message

The 2TG-RMLNLU IMC is an annual event where students and professionals get together to prepare for the future of mediation, and we, as the Organising Committee, do our best to give them the tools they need for this. To bring the competition closer to professional reality, we adopt a unique format: mediators get more autonomy and floor space in the room with longer caucus times; counsels are expected to understand their’s clients needs and step in as active negotiators, without the client present. We see the competition as an evolving phenomenon: we listen to feedback from our student participants, competition alumni, assessors, and make it better every year!

Testimonials

NILOTPAL SINGH
(BEST MEDIATOR)

The 2-TG RMLNLU is a must-do competition for every mediator. It is refreshing to see a format that challenges mediators as much as it does negotiators. Mediators are never reduced to an ornamental role in any round, and the judges consistently ensure this through their feedback. The competition is guided by some of the best expert judges, and you'd be left out if not mentored by them. The OC and the ADR Cell at RMLNLU are made up of the nicest people there are, and they more than make up for any gap. If I had an option, I would return for the people first and then for the competition right after.

AMMAR SHAHEEN
(BEST NEGOTIATOR)

Participating in the RMLNLU IMC was my first-ever experience competing in a mediation competition, and it proved to be a truly transformative introduction to the world of competitive mediation. The exposure I received at RMLNLU IMC laid a strong foundation for my journey ahead and played a crucial role in preparing me for international competitions thereafter. From competing against teams from institutions such as the National University of Singapore, to being assessed by multiple international judges throughout the rounds, the competition offered an exceptional level of academic and practical standards. Advancing to the final round and ultimately being declared the winner by a five-judge bench was an immensely rewarding experience and a defining milestone

GOH XINYING, CASSANDRA
(BEST INTERNATIONAL TEAM)

My time at the 11th edition 2TG-RMLNLU International Mediation Competition was enriching and rewarding. The problems were challenging and exciting. As a mediator, I was able to meet and witness a wide variety of different negotiators. The Organising Committee was warm — this was especially important as my team would be travelling to Lucknow for the first time. Most importantly, I made many friends that I would not have met if not for the competition! I would recommend this competition to all mediators and negotiators — whether you are new or the scene or experienced, you will definitely take away something meaningful from the experiences.

ANANYA DASH
(RUNNER-UP MEDIATOR)

The XI 2TG-RMLNLU IMC was one of my most enriching experiences in law school. The warm hospitality of the Organising Committee, coupled with the opportunity to learn from the experts within the field culminated in a uniquely rewarding experience that I will cherish for years to come. The meticulously drafted problems gave the necessary creative freedom to the negotiators to explore a multitude of solutions. This broad spectrum for negotiations, coupled with the format of the tournament, made my role as a mediator, central to the negotiations. We had limited time for preparation with each progressive round, and it tested our skills in communication and problem solving as we transitioned from one complex negotiation to another with different people and expectations to greet us each time. This is where the insights by the stalwarts including Martin and Kathleen within the Workshops organised by the Organising Committee facilitated me to effectively assist the negotiations. The guidance and support from the Organising Committee, Judges and peers alike were instrumental in how far I came within the competition. So, for future participants, I would highly encourage you to take every round as a learning curve within your journey, and as you progress to the subsequent rounds, you would have not only cultivated skills but also connected with peers and experts across the globe!

HEMISH BISWAS
(RUNNER-UP NEGOTIATOR)

The 11th edition of the 2TG–RMLNLU International Mediation Competition was an incredibly enjoyable experience, especially because of how engaging the problem became from the quarter-final stage onwards. It pushed teams to think strategically and adapt in real time rather than rely on set templates. The judging was fair and refreshing, with assessors offering sharp, practical insights that made each round a learning experience in itself. The competition was run extremely smoothly, thanks to a responsive organising committee, and the overall environment was both high-energy and supportive, making the entire experience as fun as it was intellectually rewarding.
