The Negotiation-Mediation (NegMed) segment of Clineme is an intra-college competition organised by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow. Designed to simulate structured dispute resolution, NegMed offers students an immersive platform to engage with the fundamentals of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Participants take on the roles of Negotiators and Mediators, collaboratively working through fictional disputes to arrive at mutually agreeable outcomes.

By encouraging cooperative dialogue, strategic negotiation, and principled mediation, this segment aims to hone the practical skills essential for legal professionals navigating the evolving landscape of ADR. NegMed not only strengthens advocacy and communication abilities but also fosters empathy, active listening, and problem-solving—all of which are integral to effective conflict resolution. Through this initiative, students gain meaningful experiential exposure to real-world legal challenges in a guided academic setting. 

The competition follows a structured format, beginning with a knockout round wherein all registered teams are provided with a common problem and required to submit a written negotiation and mediation plan outlining their proposed strategy for resolving the dispute. Based on the quality of these submissions, the top 24 teams advance to the oral rounds. Each team comprises three members: a Negotiating Pair (Client and Counsel) and a Mediator. The oral rounds consist of two Preliminary Rounds, after which the top 8 teams qualify for the Advanced Rounds. These rounds assess participants’ problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and capacity to navigate complex scenarios through principled and interest-based negotiation and mediation.

NegMed offers a structured and immersive experience in the ADR process, enabling participants to refine their analytical acumen, negotiation strategies, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
